The short answer

Etsy takes $2.83 from a $25 sale, or 11.3%. That is a $0.20 listing fee, a 6.5% transaction fee and 3% + $0.25 for payment processing. You receive $22.17 before your materials and time. A sale from an Offsite Ad takes $6.58, or 26.3%.

What fees does Etsy take from a $25 sale?

Fees are easy to miss until you see what actually reaches your bank account. It's fair to be surprised by them.

Here is one $25 sale, with no shipping charged. Etsy takes $2.83, or 11.3% of the price, in three parts.

One $25 item on Etsy, as of Oct 2026.
FeeHow it worksOn this sale
Listing fee$0.20 for each listing$0.20
Transaction fee6.5% of the price you show$1.63
Payment processing3% + $0.25 for each order$1.00
Etsy takes$2.83
You receiveBefore your materials and time$22.17

The listing fee is charged when you list, whether or not the item sells. If a listing has several in stock, it renews at $0.20 each time one sells. Listings run for four months.

Etsy's fees page and its Etsy Payments Policy have the current rates: fees and payments.

Do fees take more from cheaper pieces?

If your earrings sell for under $20, the fees can feel heavier. They are heavier as a share of the price.

Two of the fees are fixed: $0.25 and $0.20 an order. A fixed fee is a bigger slice of a small price. Here is what Etsy takes at four prices, with no shipping charged.

Etsy's fees at four prices, and what a card reader takes at the same price.
PriceEtsy takesShare of the priceA card reader takes
$10$1.4014%$0.41
$25$2.8311.3%$0.80
$50$5.2010.4%$1.45
$100$9.9510%$2.75

On a $10 pair, Etsy takes 14%. On a $100 piece, it takes 10%. A market with a card reader takes 3.2% of a $25 sale.

What if I charge for shipping?

If you charge for shipping, it's easy to think of it as money that just passes through. Etsy doesn't treat it that way.

The transaction fee applies to the price you show plus what you charge for delivery and gift wrapping. The processing fee applies to the whole sale, including postage. Etsy's pages say both.

Take the same $25 item with $5 shipping, an order of $30. Etsy takes $3.30, which is $0.47 more than on the item alone.

If you offer free shipping, the cost of shipping is part of your price. Then it carries the fees too.

What about Offsite Ads?

A fee that comes from an ad you didn't place can feel unfair. It helps to know when it applies.

Etsy charges an Offsite Ads fee on orders it attributes to its ads on other sites. It is 15% of the order total for shops that sold under $10,000 in the past 365 days. Shops at $10,000 or more pay 12%. The page says shops under $10,000 can opt out.

On the $25 sale, 15% is $3.75. With Etsy's other fees, that is $6.58 in all, or 26.3% of the price. You receive $18.42.

How do I cover the fees in my price?

You may be tempted to add the fees to your price and be done. That falls a little short.

Fees are a share of the price, so they grow with it. To keep $25 after Etsy's fees, you would charge $28.13, which is $3.13 more.

The calculator does this for you. Choose Etsy under where you sell, and the price it gives already covers the fees, your materials, your time and your profit.

If you sell in more than one place, set one price for the place with the highest fees. A market sale at that price then keeps a little more.

Mistakes that hide what Etsy takes

  • Counting the percent and forgetting the fixed fees. On a $10 pair, the fixed $0.45 is a large part of the $1.40.
  • Leaving shipping out. Etsy takes its percentages from what you charge for shipping too.
  • Forgetting the listing fee on stock that doesn't sell. You pay $0.20 to list, sold or not.
  • Not allowing for Offsite Ads. An ad sale on the $25 item takes 26.3% of the price.
  • Judging by the price, not the deposit. You receive $22.17 of the $25, before your materials and time.
