Updated
BeadCounters is a website with free pricing calculators for jewelry makers, and an app for your designs and prices. This page says what we collect, why, and what you can do about it.
What we collect
- Your email address, if you join the list. We also save the words you agreed to, the page you joined from, and the date.
- Your answers, if you answer the optional questions after joining: what you make, where you sell, and whether you'd do a call with us.
- Your account, if you make one: your email, your business name and your web address. Your password is stored only in a scrambled form that can't be turned back.
- What you add in the app, like your designs, supplies, prices and photos. Before a photo uploads, your browser removes its hidden details, like where it was taken.
- Requests to makers. If you ask a maker to order, or write to her, from her website, we keep your name, your email or phone and your note, and email them to her so she can reply. She sees them in her account until she deletes it.
- Your logins. For each device you're logged in on, we keep the browser's name and when the login ends, so you stay logged in and can log out.
- How the site is used. We use PostHog analytics, including session recordings, to see how people use the site and improve it. It uses cookies.
- Server logs. Our host keeps short-term logs, including IP addresses, to run the site and protect it from abuse.
What's saved on your device
Your calculator numbers are saved in your browser, so the form is still there when you come back. Clear your browser's data for this site to remove them.
If you log in, two cookies keep you logged in. The app needs them to work. A third tells our pages to show "Your designs" instead of "Log in". Logging out removes all three.
How we use it
- To run your account: log you in, and send a password reset link when you ask for one.
- To email you when the app opens, and when we add a free tool.
- To stop people guessing passwords. We count login and sign-up attempts by IP address and email, in a scrambled form, for up to an hour.
- To ask you about a call, only if you ticked the box for it.
- To see which pages and tools help makers, so we can improve them.
We don't sell or rent your information. We don't use it for advertising.
Who else handles it
These companies store or process data for us. They may only use it to provide their service to us.
- MongoDB Atlas stores the list, your account and what you add in the app.
- Cloudflare R2 stores your photos. The ones on your website show once you publish it. The rest stay private.
- Vercel hosts the website.
- PostHog runs our analytics.
- ZeptoMail sends our emails, like password reset links.
- Zoho Mail stores the emails you send us.
- Have I Been Pwned checks whether a new password has been in a data breach. We send it only the first 5 characters of a scrambled form of the password, never the password itself.
How long we keep it
We keep your email and answers until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them. We keep your account and what you add in the app until you delete your account. Analytics data is kept for as long as it helps us improve the site.
Your choices
- Every email we send has a link to unsubscribe.
- You can delete your account in Settings. It deletes your designs, supplies, photos and web address straight away.
- To see, correct or delete what we have about you, email hello@beadcounters.com. We'll reply within 30 days.
- If your browser sends a Do Not Track signal, we don't load analytics. You can also block cookies; the calculators still work.
Children
BeadCounters is not for children under 13. We don't knowingly collect their information. If you think a child has joined the list or made an account, email us and we'll delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update it here and change the date at the top. If a change affects how we use your email, we'll tell you by email first.
